The Akaka Scholars Foundation awards renewable scholarships to exceptionally talented public school students in grades 6-12 who reside on the Big Island of Hawai’i and have been admitted to Hawai’i Preparatory Academy (HPA) or Parker School in Kamuela, Hawai’i. This fund was established in 2005 in honor of the Akaka Family for their long-standing leadership in and nourishment of Big Island communities. Akaka Scholars exemplify the next generation of Hawaiian leaders. The Foundation has awarded 30 scholarships to Big Island students. Graduates of Hawai'i Preparatory Academy and Parker School are attending universities across the United States, including Amherst University, Cornell University, University of Nevada Reno and Washington State University.
No new scholarships are planned for the 2010-2011 school year.
